Ad IJzerman

Ad IJzerman, PhD

Ad IJzerman, PhD, has a strong track record in drug research (medicinal chemistry), particularly in the area of G protein-coupled receptors, the main target of today´s medicines. He has published more than 170 original papers in this respect and has been the author of a number of highly cited reviews. Moreover he is an inventor on more than 10 patent applications. Ad has been the editor of and/or contributed to a number of books on novel receptor concepts, including allosteric modulation and constitutive activity/inverse agonism of G protein-coupled receptors. He is on the editorial board of a large number of dedicated journals in medicinal chemistry and pharmacology, including the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, the #1 publication in its category. Ad has organized numerous international conferences, workshops and seminars on the abovementioned topics, including the School on Medicinal Chemistry of the Leiden/Amsterdam Center for Drug Research. He won several awards for his research (e.g., Rottendorf Europe Award, Noordwijkerhout-Camerino Medal) and for his teaching. Since 1998 he has been Professor of Medicinal Chemistry, first at the Free University in Amsterdam and at Leiden University since 2000.

Thomas Bäck

Thomas Bäck, PhD

Thomas Bäck has a strong record in prediction and optimization algorithms based on concepts from natural evolution, so-called evolutionary algorithms, which are the core search method of the Molecule EvoluatorTM. He has published more than 130 articles on natural computing technologies, as well as a book on evolutionary algorithms, entitled Evolutionary Algorithms: Theory and Practice. He is editorial board member and associate editor of a number of journals on evolutionary and natural computation, and has served as program chair for all major conferences in evolutionary computation. He received the best dissertation award from the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI) in 1995 and is an elected fellow of the International Society for Genetic and Evolutionary Computation for his contributions to the field. Since 1996 he has been Associate Professor of Computer Science at Leiden University, The Netherlands, and Professor for Natural Computing since 2002.

Thomas is Managing Director of NuTech Solutions, GmbH, and Chief Scientist of NuTech Solutions, Inc.
